Al Noor’s Madrasa Programme

We have 13 Madrasas constructed in under privileged and highly populated villages of Zanzibar island. All 13 Madrasas are part of our Islamic community centres. The number of students in each centre ranges from 150 in to 600.

Our Madrasas are not aimed at substituting the government secular educational system, but are meant to complement spiritual Islamic education which is poorly taught in these schools. Students who go to government schools in the morning sessions attend our Madrasas in the afternoon, and vice-versa.

In our Madrasas we emphasise the teaching of four subjects:

1. Namely memorisation of Qur’an and translation of Qur’an in Kiswahili
2. Translation of Sahih Bukhari in Kiswahili.
3. Fiq-hi translated into Kiswahili.

Subjects to be added into the curriculum are:

• Business courses, Leadership skills, and IT.
• Tuition for English and Math to assist students transitioning to universities.
• Arabic language — to equip students with a better understanding of the language of the Qur’an.
